  The veranda at Tyson’s mansion is filled with white chairs, pink roses, and all our friends and family. It could be awkward, considering my mother has arrived at my wedding with a new husband, but nothing can put a damper on this day.

  I stand under an arch covered with roses, my buddy and fellow firefighter, Keith, is at my side as my best man. My buddy Lance is a groomsman, along with Trent, an EMT I met through my work at the station.

  I see Kristina walk over to the stands, and I give her a wave. She has a new man at her side, but they have been married for four years and everyone is thinking this one might just stick.

  “Oh look at Ty in his baseball gear,” she says, taking her grandson from my arms.

  “Andre found that onesie online and couldn’t resist buying it,” I tell her.

  “Oh, watch,” my dad says, and we all look on as Sky takes a hit and sends the baseball flying. She runs fast, her hair flying and her feet hitting the dirt as she stomps on first, and then second, and then third base. Andre is shouting, telling Sunny to come on home, and she does, sliding in before she can get tagged out.

  Sky forgets that she is in the middle of the game and runs across the green grass toward her twin sister. “You got a run!” Sky shrieks with glee, the girls jumping up and down, ecstatic, totally lost in their own bubble.

  “Okay, girls, back to your places,” Andre tells them with a smile. The girls laugh, remembering where they are. They have such a special bond and I love seeing it in moments like these. It makes me want to have another baby, so Ty can have a partner in crime too.

  After the game, we all go out for pizza at a local joint, the grandparents feeding the girls quarters for the arcade. There is a Dodger’s game on, and Andre is pacing, watching as his favorite player is up to bat.

  I walk over to him, Tyson safely tucked in his grandpa’s arms and I wrap an arm around my husband’s waist. “Hey,” I say. “You were pretty cute out on the field today.”

  He laughs, looking down at me. “Oh yeah, you like watching me?”

  “You know I do.”

  He gives me a kiss. “Do you have plans tonight?”

  I chuckle. “You mean besides trying to get these three kids to bed at a decent hour?”

  He nods. “Yeah, besides that.”

  “No plans. I don’t even have to work at the rink tomorrow.”

slaps my butt. “I asked your mom if she’d come over and watch the kids after we have pizza. I got us a hotel for the night.”
